Rose Park Restoration - Winter 2025
This 1940 home holds a very special place in our family history. Built by my paternal grandparents, it was the home where my father grew up.
My grandfather passed away in 2011, and the house remained vacant for nearly a decade before being purchased by a family friend in 2020. Aside from a simple kitchen refresh, very little was changed. In November 2025, the home came back into our family when it was purchased by my daughter and her partner. Together, my daughter and I began planning a renovation that would honor the history of the home while giving it a new chapter.
As an artist, my daughter wanted the home to feel colorful, whimsical, and full of personality while remaining true to its 1940s roots. The plumbing and electrical systems were updated, a beautiful blue ensuite bathroom was added—transforming the home into a two-bathroom house—and the original wood floors were carefully restored. In the kitchen, the existing cabinets were given new life with a rich green paint color, paired with an earthy checkerboard floor that feels both playful and perfectly at home in the era of the house.
My grandparents took tremendous pride in this home and cared for it and its yard with so much love. It was their pride and joy, and it was an absolute pleasure to bring this special family home new life, new memories, and lots of love.
