East Bench Basement - Spring 2026
This thoughtful ‘50s renovation transformed a dark, underutilized space into one that feels intentional, functional, and beautifully connected to the character of the original 1950s home.
The primary goal was to create a well-designed laundry room while maximizing every inch of a small bathroom. The outdated furnace and mechanical room were also cleaned up and thoughtfully reorganized to create a more functional space. New flooring and layered lighting throughout the basement (stairs, hallway, two bedrooms, and large family room) completely change the atmosphere of the space. The design is clean, simple, and warm, drawing inspiration from Japandi style while complementing the home's original 1950s architecture. Natural textures, understated finishes, and a restrained palette create a sense of calm and cohesion.
The result is a basement that feels fresh, functional, and beautifully integrated with the home—transforming an overlooked space into one that is both practical and inviting.
